Cats, Cats, Cats

I can't believe October is already here and Christmas is just around the corner. And while I have loved managing the Farmers' Market here in my home town, I am ready to take a break. Our last market was loads of fun and my Avon vendor led children in a dance party while our local dj spun us some great tunes!

But, now that market is over I can focus on traveling to book festivals, participating in local craft fairs with my story sister and fellow author, Deborah Boerema, and getting ready for the coming holidays.

And speaking of market being over, that also leaves me more time to read books. So this week, in honor of my three crazy cats, I read three cat books. The first book was titled, Holly, and is illustrated and written by Ruth Brown. It is the story of a stray kitten adopted near Christmas time.  and while it is several years old and not readily available online, it is definitely worth seeing if your library has a copy. I liked this book because it reminded me of our first cat Max who was also a stray dumped in our neighborhood.

The next book I read was Hero Cat by Eileen Spinelli, and author I have read before. It is the story of another stray cat, a momma with kittens. One day while she is out getting something to eat, a fire breaks out endangering her five kittens. Despite the spoke and heat, she manages to rescue them all much to the amazement of one of the firefighters who takes them all to a rescue center. Like the first story, this one is also based on a real cat.

And last, but not least, I read Calico's Curious Kittens which follows the adventures of some curious and sometimes naughty kittens who gallivant  until nap-time. As they explore their world, they make a large new friend along the way and have a few mishaps until momma cat shows up to take them home.

Well, that about wraps it up for this week. Join me next week for another exciting episode, same crazy time, same crazy channel. So Many Good Things, And A Give-Away!

It's always an exiting week when books arrive on my doorstep. This week was no exception when my friend Debbie Dadey's latest mermaid tale, Wish Upon A Starfish, arrived. This particular story is the tale of one mergirl's dream to become a star and the rocky road leading to stardom. I loved the characters, the oceany references to things familiar in the human world, and the homework the teacher gave the students to compare and contrast two sea stars. The homework part gave me a particular giggle because  comparing and contrasting is exactly what we just covered in last week's English class. Debbie's colorful descriptions made me wish there really was such a place as trident academy. So if y ou have a little mermaid lover of your own, be sure to check out the whole Mermaid Tales Series!

And as if that wasn't exciting enough, the twitter launch party for my new picture book, Quack and Daisy, started off with a splash and several fantastic reviews. Mom bloggers from Indonesia, the United Kingdom, and all parts of the United States shared their opinions of my story. Blessedly, Quack and Daisy seems to be a hit so far. And for those of you who are fond of picture books, please join the fun and enter the party contest for a chance to win a copy of your very own! You can enter at my book launch coordinators site or anyone of the mom blogger sites hosting me.

The excitement doesn't even end there. Today as  you are reading this, I will probably be making my way to The Learned Owl Bookstore in Hudson, Ohio to meet the fantastic Drew Daywalt in person and to pick up an autographed copy of his new book, The Day The Crayons Came Home.

Well, that about wraps it up for this week. Join me next week for another exciting episode, same crazy time, same crazy channel. And feel free to drop by my personal website, Fun With Aileen, any day of the week for even more on reading, writing, my very own early grade chapter book, Fern Valley, the sequel, Return To Fern Valley, the soon to be released Cooking In Fern Valley (fall 2015)and my very first picture book, Quack and Daisy! I'm also on twitter @AileenWStewart if you want an extremely brief glimpse into my days.

Cover Reveal for Quack and Daisy

This past week was super busy with taking Emily to American Heritage Girls, children's church, home school lessons, trips to the post office, and Friday classes at school, not to mention Sunday was my birthday and Mother's Day. It was busy but good. And one of the best parts was receiving the cover, for my very first picture book, from my publisher.

So a drum roll if you please..........

Quack and Daisy

Quack, the duckling, and Daisy, the kitten, meet in the meadow and become instant best friends. But, members of their families soon have the two wondering if they can be friends at all. Will Daisy survive a dunk in the pond? Will Quack prevail at catching a mouse? And most important of all, will the two stay friends or go their separate ways?

Currently this book is in layout design, but I should have pre-release copies this summer and it should officially release sometime early fall. Therefore, if you find this book even the slightest bit interest grabbing, I have some additional good  news. I recently signed a contract for the second book in this series called, Quack and Daisy - Beyond the Meadow. So look for them both in the very near future.
